Senior eye surgeons Dr. Haripriya Aravind and Dr. R. Venkatesh of Puducherry have been chosen for the Chang-Crandall Humanitarian Award 2026 in recognition of their work in reducing blindness caused by cataract. The award honours ophthalmologists who have made a significant humanitarian contribution to eye care, particularly for underserved populations. Cataract remains one of the leading causes of avoidable blindness in India, making such surgical outreach work significant for public eye health.
