Professor Anbazhagan School Development Scheme Milestones 2026

By the first operational quarter of 2026, the Tamil Nadu government officially achieved highly significant construction and completion milestones under the remarkably ambitious

Professor Anbazhagan School Development Scheme. Dedicated entirely to the comprehensive, top-to-bottom infrastructural overhaul of state-run educational institutions, the government successfully and swiftly executed major development works across 4,426 schools, effectively utilizing a massive and unprecedented financial allocation of Rs 2,917 crore.

The multifaceted scheme's key architectural features prominently include the complete demolition of unsafe, dilapidated structures, the rapid construction of modern, highly ventilated, safe classrooms, the provision of technologically well-equipped advanced science laboratories, and the critical establishment of hygienic, modern sanitation facilities specifically and sensitively tailored for female students.

Running strictly parallel to these physical infrastructure upgrades, the state also invested heavily in cutting-edge digital upgrades, successfully setting up exactly 22,931 interactive smart classrooms at an additional cost of Rs 455.32 crore to directly benefit over 16.77 lakh students.

The primary overarching objective is to dramatically elevate the core standard of government schools to easily rival top-tier private institutions, ensuring that students from economically weaker sections have guaranteed access to premium learning environments.
