Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a set of advisories asking people to save fuel and take economic precautions as oil prices rise and supply chains face global stress. India meets about 85-90% of its crude oil needs through imports, which exposes it to price shocks and pressure on foreign exchange. The advice includes cutting petrol and diesel use, using public transport, carpooling, work from home and online meetings, moving freight to railways, avoiding unnecessary travel and overseas destination weddings, and skipping non-essential gold purchases. Citizens were also urged to buy "Made in India" goods, use less cooking oil, and adopt EVs and solar pumps, while farmers were asked to cut chemical fertiliser use and turn to natural farming.
