According to the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), the Workforce Participation Rate (WPR) for persons aged 15 and above climbed to 52.8% in August 2026, its highest level since March. Rural WPR rose to 55.8% while urban WPR slipped to 47%. The overall unemployment rate eased to 5% from 5.1% in July. Rural unemployment dropped to 4.1%, the lowest since January 2026, whereas urban unemployment went up to 6.8%. The Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) for the 15-plus age group increased to 55.6%.
