The National Statistics Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has released the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) annual report for 2025. From 2025, the survey follows the calendar year (January–December) instead of the agricultural year (July–June). For persons aged 15 and above, the Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) stood at 59.3%, the Worker Population Ratio (WPR) at 57.4% and the Unemployment Rate (UR) at 3.1%. Agriculture continues to be India's biggest employer, although its share of employment fell slightly in 2025 compared with the previous year.
