Orange Economy Initiatives: Empowering India's Creative Sector

India’s Orange Economy: Pioneering the Creative Future

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) has launched three landmark initiatives in March 2026 to strengthen India’s Orange Economy (Creative Economy). These steps aim to position India as a global hub for content creation, animation, and digital innovation.

What is the Orange Economy?

The Orange Economy refers to sectors where value is derived from intellectual property, creativity, and cultural capital. This includes film, music, gaming, design, and the AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics) sector.

The Three Transformative Initiatives

  • National AI Skilling Initiative: A partnership with Google and YouTube to train 15,000 professionals in the AVGC sector. It focuses on using generative AI tools like Veo and Gemini for modern digital storytelling.

  • MyWAVES Platform: A citizen-centric ecosystem on the WAVES OTT platform that empowers User-Generated Content (UGC). It supports creators in multiple Indian languages, transitioning users from passive viewers to active creators.

  • Advanced EPG & In-built Tuners: Television sets will now come with in-built satellite tuners and an Electronic Programme Guide (EPG). This allows direct access to DD Free Dish without a set-top box, significantly increasing reach in rural India.

Economic Impact

India's creative economy is projected to grow from $35.3 billion in 2025 to over $47 billion by 2029. The government’s focus on school-level AVGC labs and school-to-work pipelines aims to build a workforce of 2 million creative professionals by 2030.

For TNPSC and Civil Services aspirants, this is a vital update under "Economic Development" and "Science & Technology," highlighting the role of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) in the creative arts.
