The National Statistical Office (NSO) has published its 80th Round report on Domestic Tourism in India, based on a survey from July 2025 to June 2026. Pilgrimage and religious travel accounted for about 48% of overnight trips, followed by health and medical travel at about 30%. Medical travel was the costliest category, with shopping second in spending. Rural households made over twice as many overnight medical trips per 100 households as urban ones, hired vehicles were the main transport for such trips, and senior citizens aged 60+ made 32.3% of them.
