Niranjan Jyoti has assumed charge as the Chairperson of the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC). Along with her, Kiran Umesh Mahalle took charge as a Member of the Commission. The NCBC is a constitutional body under Article 338B of the Constitution, a status it received through the 102nd Constitutional Amendment of 2018. The Commission examines complaints and safeguards relating to socially and educationally backward classes and advises the government on matters concerning their welfare and development.
