National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) figures for 2024 place Odisha at the top for violent crime rate, with 161.6 victims per lakh population; Bihar came second with 83. Odisha registered 75,403 violent crime cases, the fourth-highest count after Bihar, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. The State was also second in crimes against women at 118.3 per lakh women, behind Telangana. More than 6,000 children were reported missing in Odisha in 2024, about 87% of them girls.
