The Central Government has opened the Integrated Atmospheric Chemistry and Aerosol Toxicity Analysis Laboratory (AATAL) for Delhi-NCR to sharpen air pollution forecasts and identify pollution sources. It is described as the world's first facility devoted to analysing air pollution in the Delhi-NCR region. The lab studies PM2.5, metals, toxic elements, atmospheric gases and aerosols. Set up under Mission Mausam, it is linked with IITM's AIRWISE (Air Quality Warning and Integrated Decision Support System for Emissions), which brings together forecasts, observations and source-apportionment data to guide targeted pollution-control steps.
