National Vaccination Day is observed in India on March 16 to stress the role of immunisation in safeguarding public health. The date recalls the launch of the Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme on 16 March 1995, when oral polio vaccine was first administered across the country. Following sustained vaccination drives and awareness campaigns, India was officially declared polio-free in 2014. The theme for 2026 is 'Immunization for All is Humanly Possible.'
