Hindalco Industries has commissioned India's first Superfine Precipitated Aluminium Trihydrate (PPT ATH) plant at Belagavi, Karnataka, with an initial yearly capacity of 30,000 tonnes, expandable to 60,000 tonnes. PPT ATH is a halogen-free flame retardant used in cables, insulators, paints and thermal insulation; it curbs flame and smoke spread without releasing harmful halogen acid gases. The plant uses in-house technology and runs fully on biomass, solar and wind energy. Domestic output will meet most of the wire and cable industry's demand and cut imports.
