The Bharat Maritime Insurance Pool (BMIP), launched by the Ministry of Finance's Department of Financial Services (DFS), is India's first sovereign-backed maritime insurance and risk-sharing mechanism.
War risk premium rates have fallen by about 35-40% from the levels seen at the height of the West Asia conflict. The pool ensures continued war risk cover for shipping, builds domestic underwriting capacity and boosts confidence among India's shipping and trade stakeholders.
