Two firsts in clean urban transport have been announced. India’s first hydrogen-powered shuttle bus service has begun in the Central Vista area of New Delhi. Hydrogen fuel cell buses produce electricity by combining hydrogen with oxygen, and their only tailpipe emission is water vapour. Separately, Pune in Maharashtra will establish India’s first Low Emission Zone (LEZ), meant to curb vehicular pollution and improve air quality in the city. Both steps reflect efforts to reduce transport-related emissions in Indian cities.
