The Election Commission of India has permitted postal ballot voting in the Assembly elections for senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PwDs), service voters and essential service workers.
- The facility is provided under the Representation of the People Act, 1951 to boost voter participation.
- Voters above 85 years and PwDs can vote by postal ballot after submitting Form 12D through Booth Level Officers.
- Service voters will get their ballots electronically via the Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot System (ETPBS).
- Postal ballots are valid only if they reach the Returning Officer before counting day.
