Kerala's Cabinet approved the draft Urban Policy prepared by the Local Self-Government Department, making it the first State with a comprehensive urban policy; it had been announced in the 2023–24 Budget. The Kerala Urban Policy Commission, set up in December 2023, reported in March 2025 and estimates about 80% of Kerala will be urban by 2050. Built on 10 pillars, the policy will guide urban growth for 25 years with attention to climate and public-private-people partnership.
