Sunetra Pawar, wife of the late NCP (AP) leader Ajit Pawar, took oath as Maharashtra's first woman Deputy Chief Minister; Governor Acharya Devvrat administered the oath in the presence of CM Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde. The Deputy CM post is political, not constitutional. In the 1989 Devi Lal case, the Supreme Court ruled that a Deputy Prime Minister is merely a Minister with no extra powers of the Prime Minister. Separately, Sikkim Police received the President's Police Colour (Nishaan), the 15th State and third in the Northeast to do so.
