MoSPI releases Strategy for Environmental-Economic Accounts in India 2026–2030

Save

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has published the Strategy for Environmental-Economic Accounts in India 2026–2030. It seeks to strengthen natural resource accounting, close data gaps and bring environmental information into economic planning, with coverage of land, soil, water, forests, minerals, biodiversity, carbon stocks and activities linked to the environment. It succeeds the 2022–2026 strategy and extends work India has done since 2018 under the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA), a framework endorsed by the UN Statistical Commission. Unlike GDP, which records economic output, these accounts also monitor ecosystem services, natural resources and changes in the environment.
