The Ministry of Power published a draft National Electricity Policy 2026 for public comments. It would replace the 2005 policy and sets a plan for the power sector up to 2047. Targets include per-capita use of 2,000 kWh by 2030 and 4,000 kWh by 2047, and a 45% cut in emissions intensity of GDP from 2005 levels by 2030. Others are net zero by 2070 and 100 GW of nuclear power, including small modular reactors, by 2047.
