Ministry of Mines Approves 58 Companies under ₹1,500 Crore Critical Mineral Recycling Scheme

Securing Critical Minerals: India’s Circular Economy Drive


The Ministry of Mines has approved 58 companies as participants under the Incentive Scheme for Promotion of Critical Mineral Recycling (IS-PCMR). This initiative, part of the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM), carries a total outlay of Rs. 1,500 crore.


Scheme Objectives:


  • Import Independence: Aiming to reduce reliance on foreign imports for minerals like Lithium, Cobalt, and Nickel.

  • Focus Sectors: Building capacity for Lithium-ion battery recycling, e-waste processing, and industrial scrap recovery.

  • Economic Impact: The approved entities have pledged investments of around Rs. 5,000 crore with an annual recycling capacity of 850 Kilo Tonnes.

For TNPSC and Economy aspirants, this represents a crucial pillar in India's 'Clean Energy' and 'Sustainable Manufacturing' goals.
