Urban Municipal Logistics: MoHUA Partners with Local Bodies to Integrate Photogrammetric Garbage Tracking Across Pilot Zones

In a major technical enhancement upgrading the sanitation tracking infrastructure of the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM-Urban 2.0), the **Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has announced the nationwide expansion of the upgraded Swachh Mobile App (Swachhata-MoHUA)**. Formally expanded alongside pilot deployments launched by Union Minister Manohar Lal, the application integrates advanced photogrammetric and **real-time geotagged reporting channels** to track and eliminate municipal solid waste bottlenecks across urban local bodies (ULBs).

The 10-Municipality Pilot Phase and Sanitary Inspector Allocation Grids

The updated digital framework transitions civic complaints away from delayed paper registers into automated, geo-located dispatch models:

  • The Geotagged Photo-Upload Engine: The core utility layer allows residents to **capture and upload smartphone photographs of local garbage dumps, overflowing civic dustbins, or public toilet blockages**. The application automatically locks the precise **GPS coordinates and timestamp**, instantly generating a digital ticket paperlessly.
  • Automated Sanitary Inspector Dispatches: Slicing through bureaucratic delays, the centralized backend engine **automatically assigns the geo-tagged ticket directly to the sanitary inspector or field engineer of that specific ward**. The official is legally required to clear the dump and upload a post-cleanup 'Resolved' photograph to close the ticket on the citizen's interface.
  • The 10-Municipality Regional Framework: Showcased across regional deployment drives, the pilot framework covers **10 critical municipalities—including Asansol, Durgapur, Basirhat, Contai, and Krishnanagar**—before expanding to cover all urban clusters under the national *Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskar Swachhata* campaign.
