The Ministry of Coal and Coal India Limited (CIL) unveiled India's first sector-wide Comprehensive Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Framework for coal companies in New Delhi. It is the first sector-specific CSR guideline since the statutory CSR rules under the Companies Act, 2013, whose Section 135 provides the legal basis for CSR. Drafted by the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), it aims to make CSR in mining regions transparent, measurable and outcome-based. Under Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana, CIL has funded 1,050+ child bone marrow transplants (up to ₹10 lakh each, 21 hospitals); its Nanha Sa Dil initiative has screened 2 lakh+ children and done 1,500+ free heart surgeries since March 2024.
