India's solar observatory Aditya-L1 has produced Doppler velocity images of the Sun's corona with its Visible Emission Line Coronagraph (VELC). These images let scientists follow how solar plasma moves and work out which way Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) are heading. The software that processes VELC data was built by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA). CMEs are vast clouds of hot plasma thrown out by the Sun, and they can disturb the space environment near Earth.
