Under its newly launched Sthree Suraksha Scheme, Kerala will pay a monthly pension of ₹1,000 directly into the bank accounts of unemployed women and transwomen belonging to economically weaker sections. To be eligible, a beneficiary must be between 35 and 60 years old and must not already be receiving any other welfare pension. When the first instalment was released, it was credited to over 10.18 lakh beneficiaries. Payments are made through direct bank transfer, so the money reaches recipients without intermediaries.
