INS Aridaman, India's third nuclear-powered submarine, has been inducted into the Indian Navy.
Nuclear-powered submarines can stay underwater for very long periods because they do not have to surface often to recharge batteries, which gives them greater endurance and stealth than conventional submarines. The induction expands India's undersea strength and adds to its strategic deterrence at sea. It is a notable milestone for the country's indigenous submarine programme and for protecting its interests in the Indian Ocean Region.
