Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) has launched 'INS Sanghmitra', a Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV) built as Yard 3039, for the Indian Navy at Kolkata in West Bengal. Offshore patrol vessels are used for coastal and maritime security tasks such as patrolling, surveillance and protection of offshore assets. The launch adds to the Navy's growing fleet of indigenously built warships and reflects the push for self-reliance in defence shipbuilding.
