Coir exports from India touched ₹6,614.40 crore in 2025-26, a jump of 305.70% over 2014-15. Coir is a natural fibre taken from the outer husk of the coconut, and India leads the world in both producing and exporting it, with roughly two-thirds of global output. The sector has a turnover near ₹16,000 crore and adds about 1% to GDP. Coir pith, fibre, yarn and tufted mats go chiefly to the US, China, the UK, Spain and the Netherlands. More than 21,000 registered units employ over 7 lakh people, about 80% of them women. The MSME Ministry runs the Coir Vikas Yojana (CVY) for artisan support, skilling, technology and marketing.
