The Indian Navy has taken delivery of two TROUT remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs), built indigenously by EyeROV, a company based in Kerala. TROUT is described as India's first military-grade underwater ROV. It is designed to support naval tasks such as underwater inspection, reconnaissance, search and recovery operations, and identification of targets. Because both the vehicles and their maker are Indian, the induction is a step towards self-reliance in underwater defence equipment, with a domestic company supplying a specialised system that the Navy can deploy for its own operational missions.
