The Indian Navy has added two new ships to its fleet. INS Samarthak, described as India's first indigenous multi-purpose vessel, was commissioned at Karwar in Karnataka. Separately, INS Mangrol was commissioned at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Built by Cochin Shipyard Limited, INS Mangrol is the third of the Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft built for the Navy, a class designed to hunt submarines in shallow coastal waters.
