The Indian Navy has commissioned INS Malvan, the second vessel of the Mahe class of Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC). These ships are built to hunt and track submarines in coastal and shallow waters, where larger warships find it harder to operate. The induction of INS Malvan adds to the Navy's ability to guard India's coastline and nearby sea lanes against underwater threats, and strengthens overall maritime security as more vessels of the class join the fleet.
