India–Republic of Korea Strategic Vision 2026–2030: A New Era of Bilateral Ties

India–Korea Strategic Vision 2026–2030: Strengthening the Indo-Pacific Axis

In a historic move to redefine Asian geopolitics, India and the Republic of Korea (South Korea) have unveiled their Joint Strategic Vision (2026–2030). The announcement was made during the official state visit of South Korean President Lee Jae Myung to India in May 2026, marking a decade of the Special Strategic Partnership.

Policy Convergence: Act East meets New Southern Policy

The roadmap focuses on creating a synergy between India’s Act East Policy and South Korea’s New Southern Policy Plus. This alignment aims to ensure a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region, emphasizing maritime security and international law.

Key Pillars of Collaboration

  • Defence and Security: Enhancing co-production of advanced military hardware and maritime surveillance under the 'Make in India' framework.

  • India–Korea Digital Bridge: A new initiative to foster deep-tech collaboration in Artificial Intelligence (AI), 6G technology, and Semiconductor manufacturing.

  • Space Exploration: A formal agreement between ISRO and the newly formed KASA (Korea AeroSpace Administration) for joint lunar missions and satellite technology.

  • Economic Ties: Both nations agreed to upgrade the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) to address trade barriers and diversify global supply chains.

Green and Sustainable Growth

The vision also places heavy emphasis on climate action. India and Korea will enhance cooperation through the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), focusing on hydrogen energy and green shipbuilding technologies.

For TNPSC and Civil Services aspirants, this strategic roadmap is a vital topic under "International Relations," highlighting the shift toward high-tech diplomacy and regional security cooperation.
