India Hits Historic ₹38,424 Crore in Defence Exports for FY 2025-26
India’s Defence Exports Reach Unprecedented Heights in FY 2025-26
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced that India's defence exports have scaled a historic peak in the Financial Year (FY) 2025–26. Driven by the "Make in India" initiative and global demand for indigenous technology, the sector has recorded a staggering performance that cements India's position as a global manufacturing hub.
Record-Breaking Growth Figures
The export figures for the current fiscal year show a massive leap in value and scale:
- Total Export Value: India exported defence equipment worth ₹38,424 crore.
- Annual Growth: This represents a 62.66% increase compared to the previous year’s total of ₹23,622 crore.
- Strategic Surge: This growth trajectory highlights the success of policy reforms aimed at boosting indigenous production and simplifying export procedures.
The Public vs. Private Contribution
One of the most notable features of this year's performance is the dynamic contribution from both government-owned and private entities:
- DPSUs (Defence Public Sector Undertakings): These units contributed 54.84% of the total exports. Remarkably, DPSU exports saw a phenomenal 151% increase over the last year.
- Private Sector: Private enterprises accounted for 45.16% of the total export value. While the share is slightly lower than the public sector, the private industry grew steadily by 14%.
Significance for Atmanirbhar Bharat
The record figures for FY 2025-26 are a testament to India's growing self-reliance in high-end defence technology, including missiles, artillery, drones, and armored vehicles. This shift from an importer to a significant exporter significantly strengthens India's strategic influence on the global stage.
For TNPSC and competitive exam aspirants, these statistics are vital for understanding India's industrial growth, economic reforms, and the evolving role of the defence sector in the national economy.
