Nitin Gadkari Launches India’s First Barrier-less Tolling System in Gujarat
Smart Mobility: The Arrival of Barrier-less Highway Tolling
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari launched India’s first Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) barrier-less tolling system at the Chorayasi Toll Plaza on NH-48 in Gujarat. This technology eliminates the need for physical toll plazas, ensuring a seamless driving experience.
How the MLFF System Works:
- Integrated Tech: Uses Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) with AI and FASTag (RFID) to deduct tolls while vehicles move at normal speeds.
- Efficiency: Eliminates queuing at toll booths, reducing travel time, fuel consumption, and carbon emissions.
- Digital Infrastructure: A major step toward fully automated highway management and smart mobility across India.
For TNPSC and Infrastructure aspirants, this is a key example of 'Governance through Technology' and 'Smart City Initiatives.'
