India has become an important supplier of petrol to Russia after Ukrainian drone attacks disrupted Russian refineries. Russia's seaborne petrol imports touched a record 125,000 barrels per day in August 2026. Over the last two months Indian refiners shipped about 1 million barrels of petrol to Russia, mostly from the Vadinar refinery in Gujarat. India itself imported over 2.6 million barrels per day of Russian crude in June and July 2026. Facing domestic shortages, Russia has extended its petrol export ban until January 2027.
