India and New Zealand plan to deepen sports cooperation as 2026 marks a century of sporting relations between them. The ties date back to 1926, when an Indian Army hockey team toured New Zealand. A high-level meeting in New Delhi, chaired by the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, identified rugby, rowing, canoeing, sailing, athletics and cycling as focus areas. The Sports Authority of India and the Indian Olympic Association are involved. A proposed India–New Zealand Centenary Sports Cooperation Programme 2026 will support training camps, coaching exchanges and sports science collaboration.
