India and Indonesia have joined hands to restore the Prambanan Temple Complex, a step aimed at deepening cultural links between the two countries.
- Built in the 9th century by the Sanjaya dynasty, it is Indonesia's largest Hindu temple complex and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991.
- It is dedicated to the Trimurti – Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva; the Shiva temple rises to about 47 metres.
- The complex has around 240 temples bearing Ramayana carvings and reflects strong South Indian (Pallava) architectural influence.
