The Lancet HIV Commission on Ageing released its 2026 report on the rising number of older people living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). In 2025, about 11.5 million people with HIV were aged 50 or above; this is projected to rise to 20.2 million by 2040, or 51% of everyone living with HIV. Around 96% of these older adults are expected to live in low- and middle-income countries. Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) has extended lifespans, and the report urged integrating HIV care with services for age-related illnesses and mental health.
