FSSAI Proposes Ban on Added Sucrose and Fructose in Food for Infants up to Six Months

Save

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has put forward amendments to its food safety rules. One proposal would prohibit adding sucrose and fructose to food products meant for babies aged up to six months; at present these sugars are allowed in infant foods as long as together they stay within 20% of total carbohydrates. FSSAI has also suggested maximum residue limits (MRLs) for pesticides in tea, at 20 ppm for acetamiprid and 50 ppm for imidacloprid. An MRL is the highest concentration of a pesticide residue legally allowed in food.
