A 2026 report by the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) estimates India may possess around 190 nuclear warheads: over 160 for operational launchers and about 30 more for new missiles under production. FAS says India may have produced enough military-grade plutonium for 140–225 warheads, with roughly 730 kg of weapon-grade plutonium as of early 2026. India's nuclear doctrine rests on Credible Minimum Deterrence and a No First Use (NFU) policy.
