ECI Announces Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls in 14 States and 3 UTs

Save

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced a Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls in 14 States and 3 Union Territories, fixing 1 January 2027 as the qualifying date. The exercise restarts yearly enrolment of new voters, which had been held up by the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Voters wrongly removed will be re-enrolled through Form 6 without an ancestry declaration, and rolls will be made available as searchable text PDFs. In West Bengal, 38 lakh appeals were filed, 22 lakh of them by deleted voters; tribunals restored voters in 93% of decided cases but cleared only around 3% of appeals. Bihar's electoral gender ratio dropped from 907 in 2024 to 892 after the SIR.
