DRDO is developing a 30 kilowatt (kW) directed-energy weapon (DEW) under the Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction System (IDD&IS) Mk-II(A). The system is designed to neutralise drones and surveillance sensors at ranges of up to 5 km. It was demonstrated at the National Open Air Range (NOAR) at Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh. Directed-energy weapons use concentrated energy, such as lasers, instead of bullets or missiles, offering a low-cost way to defeat small aerial threats.
