The Ministry of Defence has approved its first-ever 250 Megawatt (MW) solar power project combined with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The plant will come up on vacant defence land at Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh. Pairing solar panels with battery storage allows electricity generated during the day to be stored and supplied when sunlight is not available. The project puts unused defence land to productive use and supports India's renewable energy targets.
