CRPF Valour Day is observed on April 9 to honour the courage shown by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel during the 1965 battle in the Rann of Kutch. In that engagement, two CRPF companies held their ground against an attack mounted by a Pakistan Army brigade. The CRPF was set up in 1939 and was given statutory status under the CRPF Act, 1949. Today it plays a major role in maintaining law and order, counter-insurgency operations and the conduct of elections across India.
