Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Day is marked on July 27 to honour the service and sacrifice of the force in safeguarding India's internal security. The CRPF was set up in 1939 as the Crown Representative's Police and was renamed the Central Reserve Police Force in 1949. It is the largest Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and works under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Its duties include counter-insurgency, anti-Naxal operations, riot control and guarding vital installations. More than 2,255 personnel have died in service, and its members have received gallantry awards such as the Ashok Chakra, Kirti Chakra and Shaurya Chakra.
