Chhattisgarh has become India’s first inland State to start exporting value-added Tilapia fish products, shipping 382 tonnes to the United States. The State has put nearly ₹900 crore into fisheries under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), and its fish output has reached about 10 lakh tonnes using ponds, reservoirs and tanks. A review meeting on the Tilapia cluster was held in Raipur. Tilapia is a freshwater fish widely farmed in ponds, tanks, cages and other aquaculture systems.
