The Kosi–Mechi Intra-State Link Project in Bihar has been set a completion target of March 2029, and the Union government has approved financial assistance of ₹3,652.56 crore for it. The project will join the Kosi and Mechi river systems within the State in order to expand irrigation. The Kosi is often called the 'Sorrow of Bihar' because of its frequent floods, and linking it is expected to divert surplus water towards drier areas and help farmers in north-eastern Bihar.
