Approval has been granted by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs for a twin-tube tunnel under the Brahmaputra River in Assam that will carry both road and rail traffic. It will be the first underwater tunnel of this kind in India. The project will connect Gohpur, located on NH-15, with Numaligarh on NH-715. By providing a link beneath the river, the tunnel is intended to improve connectivity between the two banks of the Brahmaputra for both vehicles and trains, using two separate tubes.
