Bharat Biotech arm Nucelion partners VeGen Bio to make dual-target CAR-T therapy VL-2511 in India

Nucelion Therapeutics and VeGen Bio have agreed to transfer technology for, manufacture and commercialise VL-2511 in India. It is an autologous CAR-T therapy that targets both BCMA (B-cell maturation antigen) and CD19, and is being developed for multiple myeloma, a cancer of plasma cells. In CAR-T (Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell) treatment, a patient's own T cells are modified to identify and kill cancer cells; 'autologous' means the cells are taken from that same patient. Nucelion, wholly owned by Bharat Biotech, will handle technology transfer and clinical- and commercial-stage production at its Genome Valley facility in Hyderabad. The tie-up seeks to raise efficiency, cut costs and widen access to CAR-T therapy in India.
