After heavy snowfall in January 2026, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) reopened the road and carried out a rescue operation at Chatergala Pass in Jammu and Kashmir. The pass lies at about 10,500 feet. The work was done under BRO's Project Sampark, which maintains strategic road links in the region. Clearing the snow-bound route restored access for local residents and for security forces who depend on it during the harsh winter months.
