Assam's Rangpur-Sivasagar Historical Ensemble added to UNESCO Tentative List

Save
The Rangpur-Sivasagar Historical Ensemble in Assam has entered UNESCO's World Heritage Tentative List, with India's dossier filed under cultural criteria (iii) and (iv). It includes Rang Ghar, Talatal Ghar, the Namdang Stone Bridge and the Sivasagar, Joysagar and Gaurisagar tanks. The Ahom dynasty ruled the Brahmaputra Valley from 1228 to 1826 with its centre in the Sivasagar region. With this and three other properties, India's Tentative List now has 73 entries. The Ahom royal burial mounds, Charaideo Moidams, became India's 43rd World Heritage Site in 2024.
